THE FUTURE OF ROAD SAFETY IS HERE
Aviva’s Safe x Connected Cities Accelerator partnership with Highline Beta has just announced three new technology startups that are set to make a big impact on road safety in Canadian communities.
“Kicking off a new accelerator program is always exciting, and we know working with the startups selected will be successful. Each one is focused on using innovative, AI-based technology to make roads safer for everyone, which is precisely our goal with the Safe x Connected Cities accelerator.” said Benjamin Yoskovitz, Founding Partner at Highline Beta.
The startups were chosen from 90 applicants following a call for submissions in October 2020. The application criteria focused on solutions designed to help make Canadian communities safer and more inclusive for all roadway users, including drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
Introducing the Accelerator’s second cohort of startups
- AutoGuardian By SmartCone is designed to empower municipalities to improve traffic flow and make streets and traffic intersections safer for all. Its first-of-its-kind, intelligent safety infrastructure uses sensor fusion technology to create awareness of vehicles, autonomous shuttles, cyclists and pedestrians, giving everyone the time to act and be safe on the road.
- Numina measures what, where, when, and how things move in streets and open space, with proprietary sensors that leverage computer vision while protecting personal privacy. This data helps city planners, mobility companies, and other stakeholders design safer and more accessible systems for people, bicycles, wheelchairs, strollers, and more.
- Weatherlogics provides detailed, future weather information for all major highways in Canada and the U.S. so communities know where weather is disrupting transportation and how future weather systems will affect roads and highways
Launched in July 2019, the Safe X Connected Cities Accelerator program is a challenge-based platform to help scale startups with a proven ability to tackle road safety, mobility and smart city problems. Highline Beta and Aviva Canada work closely with each startup to provide mentorship, develop proof concepts and pilot their solutions.
“The Accelerator partnership with Highline Beta has proven to be an ideal program for Take Back Our Roads, our social impact platform. We’re delighted to welcome these three new startups and support them as they bring their solutions to life,” said Catherine Brown, Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Social Responsibility at Aviva Canada.
