Building a better tomorrow, together with Earth Day Canada
Aviva Canada is taking action on climate change and helping to build stronger, more resilient communities by investing in public charging stations.
That’s why we worked with Earth Day Canada to create Charged for Change, a program that will fund public electric vehicle (EV) charging installations in underserved communities across Canada. Over the next 3 years, we will be investing a total of $3 million — $1 million every year — to help nine Canadian communities get access to EV charging infrastructure, starting with three communities in Ontario in 2023.
Eligible communities interested in benefiting from this EV program can submit their applications starting January 3, 2023 until March 22, 2023 to receive funding for EV infrastructure projects.
Investing in a more sustainable future
The need for funding charging infrastructure
Making the transition to EVs is an important component of the global strategy to fight climate change and create a better, more sustainable world for all of us. However, the infrastructure required to support this change can be cost prohibitive for many communities.
Why invest in EV charging stations?
We know that the availability of charging infrastructure is a deciding factor for Canadians considering the purchase of an EV. Aviva will provide necessary funding to underserved communities across Canada, helping to remove a key barrier they face in getting EV infrastructure up and running. With Earth Day Canada, Aviva is accelerating the widespread adoption of EVs across the country.
To be considered for funding in 2023, projects must meet the following criteria:
Be located in Ontario.
Be a recognized Canadian Municipality or Indigenous Community with less than 100,000 residents.
Have less than the Ontario provincial average of 1 public charging station per 8,610 people within the community.
Include the installation of new, permanent level 2 EV charger(s).
Increase charging opportunities locally via public charging infrastructure in any of the following areas: on-street, multi-unit residential buildings, or workplaces.
How to apply
Applications to the Charged for Change program open on January 3, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. ET and close on March 22, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. ET.
It is strongly recommended that applicants carefully review the Application Guide contents and gather all necessary information and attachments before applying.
