What you need to know
Please review the table titles below carefully to see how your coverage has been updated.
Here are the key updates that you may see on your Certificate of Insurance (COI) or Summary of Change in your policy package:
| Current Aviva customers moving to RetreatLife® Comprehensive coverage | |
| Product Update | What's changing |
| Personal property coverage | Personal property coverage helps protect your belongings, such as furniture, clothing, and electronics. If your belongings are damaged, destroyed, or stolen due to an event covered by your property insurance, this coverage can help you pay to repair or replace them. As part of these updates, you now have more protection for your personal belongings. Your personal property used to only be protected from specific causes of loss (Named Perils). You are now covered for most accidental damage or loss, unless your policy specifically excludes it (All Perils). |
| Detached private structures | Detached private structure coverage protects buildings on your property that are not physically attached to the main house on the property. Some examples include a shed, gazebo, dock, or detached garage. Your coverage for detached private structures has been reduced. Please contact your broker to answer any questions you may have about this update. |
| Additional living expense | Additional living expenses help you pay for extra costs if you can’t use your seasonal residence due to a covered loss, such as a fire or major water damage. Your additional living expenses coverage has been reduced. Please contact your broker to answer any questions you may have about this update. |
| By-law coverage | By-law coverage helps you pay the extra costs of repairs or rebuilding your property to meet current building codes after an insured loss. As part of these changes, your by‑law coverage has been increased. Please contact your broker to answer any questions you may have about this update. |
| Burglary coverage and malicious damage coverage | Burglary coverage helps you pay to repair or replace your belongings or property if someone breaks into your home and causes damage or theft. Malicious damage coverage protects you when someone intentionally damages your home or belongings; it helps you pay to repair or replace items. Your RetreatLife® property policy now includes burglary and malicious damage coverage. In the previous version of this policy, these coverages were available for an additional cost and have been removed as separate option. |
