Changes to your Personal Umbrella coverage

Personal Umbrella coverage offers liability protection above and beyond your existing home, auto, watercraft and recreational vehicle policies. Liability insurance protects you if you’re found legally responsible for causing bodily injury or property damage.

As part of our commitment to our customers, we’re updating your Personal Umbrella coverage to better meet the needs of customers looking for additional liability protection. We have written this coverage as a separate policy.

What you need to do

Please review your new policy package. We have now written your Personal Umbrella cover as a separate policy with its own policy number. When your policy renews, your Personal Umbrella coverage will be automatically updated.

What you need to know

Here are the key updates that you’ll see on your Certificate of Insurance (COI) in your policy package:

Risks

Risks are items listed on your policy that are eligible for Personal Umbrella coverage, including private automobiles, watercrafts, recreational vehicles, and properties within Canada.

Your Personal Umbrella policy will cover your principal residence and up to 3 additional eligible risks. This policy update gives you more flexibility when choosing what you want to insure under your policy. If you want to insure more than 4 risks, an additional annual premium will apply.

Home-Based Businesses

Home-Based Businesses insured with Aviva are now automatically covered under your Personal Umbrella policy.

Rental Income Eligibility

Rental income eligibility refers to the money you earn from renting out your property, such as a house, condominium, basement apartment, or vacation home, that’s an insured risk under this policy.

There is no longer a maximum amount of rental income to qualify for coverage under this policy.

Farms

Farms are properties where people grow crops, raise livestock, or carry out agricultural activities for personal or business purposes.

Revenue generating farming activities are not covered under this policy. Please contact your broker to discuss your coverage needs if you require farming-related coverage.
